Text Box: About Us
Text Box: The Stitching Place was established in 1983 in Indianola, Iowa. We opened the first shop just off the town square consisting of only 75 bolts of top quality fabric, notions, and patterns. Since then we have moved several times, finding our final home on the Northwest corner of the square. This old movie theatre has been molded into the perfect dwelling for The Stitching Place.
Due to the space we now have, the store has been able to more than triple in size from our first home. The changes made to this quilt shop over the years has been remarkable. The largest change has been the addition of Pfaff and Baby Lock sewing machines and sergers as well as the products we carry for them. We now specialize in machine embroidery supplies and a variety of software.
About Eileen
She began her sewing career as a young girl who used to love to help her grandmother sew. That love led her to working in a local fabric store, to teaching her first quilting class, to joining Pfaff American Sales Corporation as an Educational Consultant. The opportunity to travel across the United States, teaching for Pfaff at quilt shows, conventions, embroidery and quilt guilds helped to broadened her knowledge and teaching skills. Join Eileen in a class and you will find she loves to share that knowledge.
Indianola
Indianola, the county seat is a community of about 14,000 people located just 12 miles south of Des Moines Iowa on highway 65-69.
Community attractions include Simpson College, the Des Moines Metro Opera, a local community theater and The National Hot Air Balloon Museum.
Throughout the summer months small weekend festivals are held. Late July brings the county fair to town and in August we host the National Hot Air Balloon Classics.
While here, plan to visit one of our local wineries, take advantage of a stroll through one of the many city parks or try the swimming and camping at Ahquabi State Park. If golf is your sport, schedule a day of play on one of the nearby golf courses or if you’re a cyclist try one of our biking trails.
You will find that with all of this Indianola has the advantages of a city but still maintains its small town charm.
